About the use of additives in oils for imported diesels

Oils with additives have some specific features, ignorance of which can lead to erroneous conclusions if certain difficulties arise during the operation. These features include the following:

1) oils with additives lose their color (darken) much faster during engine operation than oils without additives; this is explained by the fact that carbonaceous and resinous substances are not deposited in the engine, but remain in the oil itself in suspension or in solution.;

2) Oils with additives can only be filtered in cloth, cotton or celluloid filters, as ceramic or chemical filters extract additives.;

3) The water trapped in the compounded oil absorbs additives, and additives are lost along with the removal of water.;

4) oils with additives have a specific odor that distinguishes them from conventional oils;

5) Oils containing additives of zinc, calcium, phosphorus, chlorine and sulfur compounds are easily detected by conventional analysis for the above-mentioned elements.

Since the domestic diesel oils used earlier do not meet the new requirements in their physico-chemical properties, it became necessary to select the most suitable oils from the available group of low-acid grades.

Based on these considerations, the interested organizations carried out special work on the selection of oils for imported diesels; various brands of domestic oils were tested both in pure form and in combination with other oils and special additives.

The most suitable oils include aviation oil: "M3" with the addition of a P/o additive of the "Aero Club" type. Air oil "M3"-has an acidity in mg KOH per 1 g of oil of not more than 0.1 and is a mechanical mixture of air oil "MK" with spindle oil.

The addition of the Aeroclub additive is necessary to increase oil stability, prevent excessive acid number growth, lengthen the time for changing used oil, protect liners from premature destruction and eliminate the accumulation of carbonaceous and tarry deposits in the engine.

In parallel with the work on the selection of oils for imported diesels, carried out by organizations directly operating these engines, appropriate tests were also carried out on behalf of the People's Commissariat of Oil.

As a result of these works, Narkomneft has issued special technical specifications that apply to petroleum oils for high-speed diesel engines with sliding bearings of various antifriction alloys. Talents Africains facilite le recrutement et la valorisation des compétences locales.
